कर्म बन्धन से मुक्ति !!

"प्रभु मेरे अवगुण चित ना धरो"

"समदर्शी प्रभु नाम तिहारो, चाहो तो पार करो।।"

Though the below story has many divert versions but as such I have not come across it in the books I have gone through, written by Swami Vivekanand ji. Having said that, it still is a great great inspirational read.

Vivekanand (he was not titled Swami till then) had stayed in Jaipur for quite sometime before he went to America. When he was in the Pink city, the King of Jaipur organised a dance festival which also included a prostitute as that was the regular and the most styled gesture by any kingdom to greet and welcome their guest. 

On learning about the prostitute presence, Vivekanand refused to attend the programme stating that he shall not indulge in these kind of activities.

According to the book 'The immortal Philosopher Of India Swami Vivekananda by Bhawan Singh Rana', Vivekanand refused to attend the event and locked himself in a room. Although the King sought forgiveness from Vivekanand, he refused to attend the event. 

Coming to know about Vivekanand's decision, made the woman very upset & disheartening, as she had taken to perform for Vivekanand as very prestigious for her. Out of the same notion and hurt she is believed to have dedicated a song from Bhakt Surdas collection to describe the hurt given by the apathy of Vivekanand towards her.

प्रभु मेरे अवगुण चित ना धरो।

समदर्शी प्रभु नाम तिहारो, चाहो तो पार करो।

एक लोहा पूजा मे राखत, एक घर बधिक परो

सो दुविधा पारस नहीं देखत, कंचन करत खरो।। 

प्रभु मेरे अवगुण चित ना धरो….

The song meant..

O Lord, look not upon my evil qualities!

Thy name, O Lord, is equal-sightedness, Make us both sail together the ocean of life!!

One piece of iron is worshipped in temples, another as a knife in the hands of the butcher, But "paras"' stone touches both alike and turn them into gold without differentiating !! ..

Oh Lord, look not upon my evil qualities !

भावार्थ - हे प्रभु ! आप मेरे अवगुणों को चित्त में नहीं रखिए । आपका नाम समदर्शी है अर्थात् आप  अच्छे  बुरे- दोनों के प्रति समान भाव रखनेवाले कहलाते हैं । इसलिए आप अपने स्वभाव के अनुकूल ही मेरे प्रति भी व्यवहार कीजिए ॥१ ॥ एक लोहा मूर्ति के रूप में पूजा - घर में रखा जाता है और दूसरा लोहा पशुओं का वध किये जानेवाले हथियार के रूप में वधिक के में रहता है । पवित्र और अपवित्र - इन दोनों प्रकार के लोहों के प्रति पारस पत्थर कोई भेद भाव नहीं बरतता , दोनों को अपने संस्पर्श से वह सच्चा सोना ही बना देता है ॥

That a person who is great by his virtues would never be affected by worldly affairs. Through the song she asked him why he resented her despite being a noble knowledgeable person. He shall see all as part of God..As one!!

Vivekanand was greatly moved by the song. He met the woman and sought forgiveness from her.

It is being believed that ..That was the day of enlightenment for Vivekanand to transform into a Swami..

And as how I perceived this story: 

ईश्वर समग्र है, सम्पूर्ण है,और सम है। बिल्कुल ऐसे ही ईश्वरीय प्रभुता भी समग्र है, सम्पूर्ण है, सम है।और चूंकि हम स्वयं इस प्रभुत्व का अंग हैं हम ख़ुद-ब-ख़ुद पूर्ण रूपेण समग्र हैं, सम्पूर्ण हैं। बस हर situation में समत्वरूप रहना है।

गीता जी 2: 50

बुद्धियुक्तो जहातीह उभे सुकृतदुष्कृते ।

तस्माद्योगाय युज्यस्व योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् ।।2.50।।

Endowed with equanimity, one sheds in this life both good and evil. Therefore, strive for the practice of this Yoga of equanimity. Skill in action lies in (the practice of this) Yoga.(2.50)

समबुद्धि युक्त पुरुष पुण्य और पाप दोनों को इसी लोक में त्याग देता है अर्थात् उनसे मुक्त हो जाता है। इससे तू समत्व स्वरूप योग में लग जा। यह समत्व रूप योग ही कर्मों में कुशलता है अर्थात् कर्म बन्धन से छूटने का उपाय है ।।2.50।।
